DPI - Dry Powder Inhalers
Micronization of a blend consisting of the drug and a suitable carrier
A dry powder inhaler (DPI) is a device that delivers medication such as corticosteroids to the lungs through inhalation. DPIs are commonly used to treat respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
The powdered substances used for this purpose need to have a strict Particle Size Distribution (PSD) in the range of 1-5 microns to ensure that the drug constituent part is deposited deeply into the lungs.
Dec has developed and patented a new generation of spiral jet mills MC DecJet® in order to micronize corticosteroids such as fluticasone and to achieve a tight PSD curve with a typical measurement d50 < 2 µm, ensuring effective drug deposition in the small peripheral airways of the lungs.
MC DecJet® jet mills enable to get a very tight controllable Gauss curve with a high recovery yield.
Due to the potency of the powder, Dec can offer completely contained solutions from the handling of the incoming powder, micronization in the isolator to the blending and inhaler filling operations.
Years of experience and deep-rooted expertise have made Dec a world leader in micronization and process containment technologies also able to provide technical customer support for their process development.
